Amid great anticipation, Lahore is all set to host the three-day celebration of the 980th Urs of Hazrat Ali Hajveri, affectionately known as Data Ganj Bakhsh. Thousands of devoted pilgrims, hailing from both Pakistan and abroad, are expected to converge upon the shrine, as the annual festivities kick off today.

To ensure the comfort and well-being of the devotees, the Auqaf Department has spared no effort in making elaborate arrangements. These include provisions for langar (free communal meals), mehfil-e-naat (religious gatherings), qawali (Sufi music performances), and spiritual programs known as tableghi. An impressive budget of Rs 125 million has been allocated by the Punjab Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department to provide free food and other amenities throughout the Urs.

Security measures have been significantly beefed up, with a deployment of 3,000 police personnel, walk-through gates, metal detectors, and a vigilant security force, supplemented by volunteers. A dedicated bomb disposal squad will remain on standby, and medical assistance will be readily accessible, with the presence of Rescue 1122 staff, ambulances, and special arrangements at nearby hospitals. Continuous power and gas supply are also assured, thanks to additional generator capacity and cooperation from the gas company.

For the convenience of attendees, designated vehicle parking areas have been established at various locations. Moreover, comprehensive arrangements have been made for ablution facilities, drinking water supply, medical services, and the upkeep of cleanliness throughout the event.

Chief Minister Naqvi underscored the commitment to ensuring a memorable and well-organized Urs, stating, “We are committed to ensuring a memorable and well-organized event. During the three-day Urs celebration, from Tuesday to Thursday, we are making extensive arrangements to facilitate all attendees.” He also highlighted plans for the langar khana (community kitchen) where provisions will be made for all participants to partake in meals.

Additionally, CM Naqvi emphasized that comprehensive arrangements have been put in place for the Chehlum, processions, and Urs, addressing traffic concerns. He assured the public of a well-thought-out traffic management plan and the availability of parking facilities once security measures are met. Furthermore, he announced upcoming initiatives to expand Data Darbar, including enlarging the mosque and shrine premises.

In a gesture of respect and recognition, CM Naqvi declared September 7th (Thursday) as a public holiday in Lahore in honor of the annual Urs of Data Ganj Bakhsh Syed Ali Hajwari (RA).

The celebration of the Urs of Hazrat Ali Hajveri promises to be a spiritually enriching and secure event, showcasing the city’s commitment to the comfort and well-being of all participants.
