During the press conference, Shaheen was asked if fast bowlers can be good captains. He said that my four year journey with Lahore Qalandars has been very memorable. I can say to myself that Aqib Javed is our head coach. I have learned a lot from him and besides Hafeez Bhai and I will try to learn with pride.

It should be noted that Lahore Qalandars had announced the appointment of Shaheen as the vice-captain before the sixth season of the league played this year while he is the eighth captain of Lahore Qalandars. Shaheen Afridi has been given the leadership in place of Sohail Akhtar, where Sohail Akhtar had led the Qalandars in the previous two seasons.

The Lahore Qalandars had appointed Azhar Ali as the captain for the first edition of the league and Dwayne Bravo was given the leadership during the same event. In the 2017 and 2018 seasons, New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum led the Qalandars, while in the 2019 season, AB de Villiers and Fakhar Zaman also led the team after captain Mohammad Hafeez’s injury.

In the 2020 and 2021 seasons, Sohail Akhtar successfully led the franchise but this year Qalandars announced the appointment of Shaheen as the captain.
