Legendary comedian Umer Sharif passes away
Legendary comedian and actor Umer Sharif has passed away. He had been in poor health for quite some time and was scheduled to go to the United States (US) for treatment but breathed his last before getting there.
According to reports, Umer Sharif passed away while in Germany where the air ambulance carrying him to the US had to land due to his condition deteriorating.
The comedian was scheduled for a high-risk heart surgery in the US, to be performed by actress Reema’s husband Tariq Shahab, but had to land in Germany on September 28 due to fever and a severe pneumonia attack while on the way. For this, he was admitted to a hospital in Nuremberg, and also had to undergo dialysis. He was eventually to fly to the US but breathed his last in Germany.
It is to be noted that legendary comedian and actor Umer Sharif was born on 19 April 1955 in Karachi. He began his career in 1974 at the age of 14 as a stage performer and eventually became highly popular. Some of his most acclaimed shows are 1989’s Bakra Qistoon Pe and Budha Ghar Pe Hai.
The comedian is widely regarded as one of the greatest comedians of the subcontinent and was widely known in India too, appearing as a guest judge in the Indian stand-up comedy show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, alongside Indian politician and former cricketer, Navjot Singh Siddhu.
