Madhya Pradesh: Forty people die as bus falls into canal
At least 40 people have died after a bus fell into a canal The incident took place in India where a bus fell into a canal in Sidhi district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. So far 40 people have been killed when the bus fell into the canal. The bus was carrying 50 people. About 50 passengers were on board the bus, police sources said, citing initial reports. There are reports of more than 20 feet of water in the canal connected to Bansagar Dam. As soon as the report of the accident was received, Collector Ravinder Kumar Chaudhry rushed to the spot with the forces and rescue operations were launched. The accident took place 80 km from the district headquarters and some passengers were evacuated to nearby hospitals. The bus left straight in the morning and fell into a canal during the journey. According to police, the driver was either asleep or the driver was speeding After the accident, Chief Minister Shivraj Chauhan has announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the victims.
