Maleeha Lodhi briefs UNSC president on India’s ‘illegal’ actions in IoK

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Maleeha Lodhi met UN Security Council (UNSC) President Joanna Wronecka on Tuesday to brief her about the possible threat to regional peace by India’s activities in Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK).

She said that India was changing the geographical position of the region. The United Nations has to do its part so that the Kashmir issue will not reach a dangerous situation which will disrupt the peace of the entire region.

Maleeha Lodhi further said that it was the responsibility of the Security Council to end the Indian occupation of Kashmir and the UN was exercising self-determination for the Kashmiri people but India violated the resolutions of the Security Council.

While portraying the Pakistan’s stance on the Indian activities causing threat in the region, Dr. Maleeha Lodhi said that India cannot change ground realities through forceful supremacy legislation. Indian measures are a serious violation of international law and UNSC, and it is the responsibility of the Security Council and international community to implement the resolutions. Pakistan will continue its political and economic support to Kashmir.

It should be noted that India has changed the status of Kashmir by amending Article 370. Curfew is imposed in the valley and internet service is not available. Kashmiris still managed to come on the streets to record their protest and are being tortured.
