Lahore, 6th October: The Lahore High Court has acquitted a Christian man who was sentenced to death in March 2014 over blasphemy charges.

According to a report from a news website Propergaanda, a Christian has been acquitted who was sentenced to death over blasphemy charges in the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Sawan Masih was acquitted by a division bench headed by Justice Syed Shehbaz Ali Rizvi.

Masih had filed an appeal against the death sentence given by the trial court almost seven years ago. He told the court that police had registered the case 35 hours after the alleged incident.

The defendant contended that there were contradictions in the FIR and the account narrated by the complainant before the trial court.

He further alleged that the charges were framed against him by people who wanted to occupy the land of Joseph Colony.

After the bench heard arguments from both sides, the court acquitted Sawan Masih, saying the prosecution has failed to prove his involvement in the blasphemy case.
