Man Drink-Driving and Trying to Bribe Officer with $200 Deported
An Indian man living in New Zealand tried to bribe his way out after he was caught and charged with drinking and driving. 27-year-old Gurwinder Singh from India had a blood alcohol level of 100 milligrams per 100 milliliters of blood which is twice as high as the legal limit. According to reports, in May 2019, Gurwinder Singh, an essential workers visa holder from India, was caught for drinking and driving, and upon being charged he tried to offer the reprimanding officer $200 to discontinue the process. The case went to court which has ruled that he will be deported to his homeland. In December 2020, Singh was detained for three months, pending a court hearing, and received a sentence in February this year. In the sentence, he was served a six months’ home detention, disqualification from driving for six months, and will have to pay $170 dollars as a fine. Furthermore, he also received a deportation liability notice in February which called into question his character due to the nature of his crime.
