Oct 15, 2021: Mauqa Mauqa, a popular campaign launched by an Indian channel in 2015, has returned after the clash between the two sides in the ICC T20 World Cup on October 24.

Initially launched six years ago, the campaign takes digs at Pakistan through the lens of an enthusiastic Pakistani cricket fan. According to the campaign, all the fans want Pakistan to win the World Cup against India. However, the ad always ends when the fans are disappointed and Pakistan is mentioned every time with a loss in every World Cup match against India.

In the latest TV commercial, a Pakistani fan goes to an electronic store owned by an Indian friend to buy a large TV set. “Show me a big TV,” says the Mauqa Mauqa boy. “This time, Babar, Rizwan will take it from Dubai, and the glasses of Delhi will be shattered.”

“We will take the opportunity,” he says. The owner of the electronic shop then asks his Pakistani friend to take home two TV sets instead of one. Puzzled, he asks why?

(Your team has lost to ours five times in the World Cup),” he responds.

(Forget the firecrackers. You will need to smash something, right?)” he says.

“Buy one, break one free,” he says to the disappointed Pakistani fan.

The campaign has garnered a lot of attention in both India and Pakistan over the years, with fans in both countries always reacting to its content. After Pakistan defeated India in the final of the Champions Trophy in 2017, captain Sarfraz Ahmed joined the sea of fans outside his Karachi residence, holding the trophy in his hand, singing Mauqa Mauqa.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam is confident of beating India and winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup as he said the men are focusing on what is coming green and not on their past performance. During a virtual press conference a few days ago, the captain had said that Pakistan would defeat India and would continue the momentum throughout the tournament to win the World Cup.

“There is pressure on [the team] during mega events, but there is extra pressure during matches against India,” the captain told reporters during a press conference.

Azam had said that Pakistan practiced for the World Cup with full attention and the team would go to the prepared tournament. Pakistan will play a warm-up match against the West Indies and South Africa before launching their campaign with a blockbuster clash with rival India in Dubai on October 24.
