Lahore, 17th December: Singers Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi’s court battle has intensified. Prosecution team approved challan against Meesha Shafi & others for hearing.

According to Baaghi TV reports, Meesha Shafi’s legal team has responded to an interim challan filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in a Lahore trial court on December 15.

According to media reports, reacting to the interim challan presented by the FIA in the trial court yesterday, Meesha Shafi’s legal team said that in their view, the report of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has deep errors in it.

According to Shafi’s legal team, no legal court has yet ruled against Meesha Shafi in the case filed on Ali Zafar’s complaint.

The singer’s legal team said that the main legal point of the FIA is to prove how guilty Meesha Shafi is and it has not been determined yet.

The singer’s team expressed hope that the eight other people named in the case, including the singer, would not be convicted in the relevant courts.

On the other hand, the challan against Meesha Shafi and others has been accepted by the prosecution team for hearing. Judicial Magistrate Zulfiqar Bari will hear the challan.

Judge Fazil will order the summoning of singer Meesha Shafi and other named accused.

It should be noted that the FIA had completed the investigation and submitted the challan to the prosecution. In the challan, eight accused including singer Meesha Shafi and actress Iffat Omar were named.

In the interim challan, the FIA said that during the interrogation, singer Meesha Shafi, actress and host Iffat Umar, Leena Ghani, Fareeha Ayub, Mahim Javed, Ali Gul, Hazimul Zaman Khan, Hamna Raza and Syed Faizan Raza have been present so far. The accused made allegations of sexual harassment against Ali Zafar on social media. According to the available oral and documentary evidence, he was found guilty in this case. However, to the extent that the complainant accepted his apology, he recorded his statement in favour of Hamna Raza. Thus further investigation is not required.

The FIA had said that Ms Shafi had made notorious and false allegations of sexual harassment against Ali Zafar on April 19, 2018, but she had previously failed to present any witnesses in support of her allegations. Other defendants also failed to provide evidence in support of the direct allegations levelled by them on social media, resulting in the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016 and R / W109-PPC against them last September. An FIR was registered on the order of the court under section 20 (1) of the IPC.

In the challan, the FIA had said that in November 2018, Ali Zafar had lodged a complaint with the FIA Cyber Crime Wing. It was alleged that a number of social media accounts were publishing “threats and defamatory material” against him. He provided details of a few of those Twitter and Facebook accounts in support of his claim.

In his complaint, Mr Zafar attached pictures of Ms Shafi to his social media accounts but said, “she was largely erased before the allegations were made.” He also submitted a “threatening message” sent to his manager on Instagram in February 2018.

According to the challan, the singer-actor told the FIA with documentary ‘Evidence’, “A Twitter account; was formed 50 days before the harassment allegations”.

Ms Shafi appeared in front of the FIA Cyber Crime Wing in December 2019 with her team of lawyers, the FIA said. However, they have failed to produce any witnesses in support of their allegations (sexual harassment) against Mr Zafar.
