June 23, 2021: Buckingham Palace has launched an inquiry into bullying claims made against Meghan Markle, which a source says she will take on in a “brutal showdown.”
In March, the Duchess of Sussex demanded a breakdown of all the allegations that have been made against her by her former staff at Kensington Palace. The Daily Mail reports an email written in 2018 by the Sussexes’ then-press secretary, Jason Knauf, was leaked to The Times newspaper.
The email brought to light bullying allegations reading “I am very concerned that the Duchess was able to bully two PAs out of the household in the past year. The treatment of X [Name redacted to protect privacy] was totally unacceptable.”
Simon Case, then the private secretary of the Duke of Cambridge, received the first email. After the email surfaced, the palace began investigating the claims. The Daily Mail reported that a spokesman for the palace said he was “very concerned” and that “at this time, including members of staff who have left the house, will be invited to join in to see it. Let’s see if lessons can be learned. “
A source close to the inquiry told The Mirror that “the palace is taking every allegation very seriously and wants to get to the bottom of the matter.” But Meghan says that the staff was not performing their job and that they could not cope with the pressure working for her. Meghan wanted to break down all the claims one point at a time, as a senior palace source confirmed in March that her office had requested all documents, emails or text messages and fight the smear campaign against her.
Daily Mail sources understand that there is now a fear of a “brutal showdown”. A Duchess spokeswoman said she was “saddened” by the recent attack on her character. Claims are being investigated and are being investigated by an independent law firm that employs the palace.
