Dec 8, 2021: Mehbooba Mufti, president of the Regional People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has said that New Delhi is forming “proxy political parties “in IIOJK to legitimize its unconstitutional decision to end the region’s semi-autonomous status in 2019.
In a statement on Tuesday, the former IIOJK chief minister also claimed that the BJP, led by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to divide the political parties in the state so that “unconstitutional decisions in the assembly can be made constitutional”.
“The policy of BJP is to create division among regional parties in [Occupied] Jammu and Kashmir. First, they created proxy parties out of the PDP. Then they created division within the National Conference in Jammu and made those leaders directly join the BJP.” Mufti said.
The Kashmiri leader said that now there was a division even within the Congress party “which is not happening on its own, but being done by the BJP”.
“BJP wants to create two factions in the Congress party here as well and wants to use them separately.”
She claimed that the sole purpose of forming blocs in political parties in IIOJK was to enable only those politicians to become members of the Legislative Assembly who support the unconstitutional decision of the Modi government of August 5, 2019.
Mehbooba Mufti, who headed the PDP-BJP coalition government at IIOJK from April 2016 to June 2018, has been raising her voice against the BJP decisions in the occupied territories since the repeal of Article 370.
She has repeatedly targeted the center, accusing it of “disenfranchising” the people of IIOJK.
