MOSCOW: After Netflix and Apple, Microsoft has announced the closure of its service in Russia. According to reports, Microsoft announced that it is stopping the sale and service of all its products in Russia.

According to the foreign news agency Reuters, a statement issued by Microsoft said that Russia strongly condemns the illegal, unprovoked, and unjustified attack on Ukraine and in protest, the sale and service of all its products in Russia have been closed.

Prior to Microsoft, other major tech companies including Apple, Nike, and Dell have imposed strict sanctions against Russia. In addition, Microsoft has removed the Russian media ‘RT’ mobile application from the Windows App Store. It has also banned Russian media from advertising. Earlier, Russia was banned by almost all social media companies, including Facebook, Twitter, and Google, the world’s largest search engine, following the attacks on Ukraine.

The social networking site Facebook has not only ended the monetization of Russian media but also stopped their advertising. However, Facebook has also partially banned the content of several Russian state broadcasters. Likewise, Google, YouTube, and Twitter have also banned all other TV channels, including Russia’s state-run media channel RT, from making money through video ads.

The effects of the war with Ukraine are now affecting the Russian economy as well. Following the West’s economic sanctions, many international companies have suspended their services and operations in Russia.
