Middle East on fire
Iran’s president has accused Israel of trying to escalate tensions in the Middle East by pushing Iran to intervene in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, a group supported by Tehran. He warned that this could lead to dire and irreversible outcomes.
In response to rising tensions, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been moved to a secure location inside Iran, a precautionary measure taken as Israeli attacks intensify against Hezbollah, one of Iran’s most powerful regional allies.

The violent clashes between Israel and Hezbollah reflect a deeper power struggle between Israel and Iran. Tehran’s goal appears to be establishing a military network linking Gaza, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen, aiming to create a new strategic reality for Israel. Israel, however, is countering these moves with aggressive military tactics. Despite significant destruction and widespread loss of life, neither side has achieved a decisive victory. Nor will anytime soon. Civilians in the region have borne the brunt of the devastation, facing displacement and suffering.

While groups loyal to Iran have launched attacks on Israel from Iraq and Yemen, the main conflict zones remain Gaza and Lebanon, where Israel is battling Hamas and Hezbollah. Despite heavy losses for both Hezbollah and Hamas, Israel’s refusal to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza risks plunging the region into a broader war. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s reluctance to halt military actions is driven by political survival, exploiting the ongoing conflict to maintain his leadership during a period of national crisis.
In my humble opinion, war is the weapon of the weak. One cannot but remember Sub Tzu [The Art of War] “The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.”
