Ministry of Education, Punjab, and Chromatic Organized a Special Event in Lahore for World No Tobacco Day | Baaghi TV

Lahore (Press Release): In commemoration of World No Tobacco Day, the Ministry of Education, Punjab, in collaboration with the non-profit organization Chromatic, organized a special event in Lahore to raise awareness about the dangers of smoking and protect the youth from its harmful effects.

More than 300 principals and teachers from public and private schools across Lahore attended the event. The initiative aims to launch a sustained awareness campaign to protect over two million children studying in primary schools throughout the provincial capital from smoking. As part of the efforts, recommendations will be prepared for the provincial government to establish no-smoking zones in Punjab and for the federal government to impose heavy taxes on tobacco products.

The guest of honor, Amina Hassan Sheikh, Member of the Punjab Assembly and Tobacco Control Ambassador for Pakistan, addressed the participants. She expressed grave concern over the alarming statistic that over 1,200 children in Pakistan start smoking daily. Emphasizing the critical need to protect schoolchildren from smoking, Amina Sheikh assured that the Punjab government would utilize all available resources for this purpose.

“To create a healthy society, it is imperative to protect our children from the scourge of smoking. We will run a permanent awareness campaign in schools across Punjab, which will include the display of awareness posters and other educational methods,” said Amina Hassan Sheikh. She added that, under the special directives of Punjab’s Minister of Education, Rana Sikandar Hayat, awareness messages about the harms of smoking and its effects on children will be disseminated through WhatsApp groups created for teacher-parent coordination. This initiative aims to secure the future of over two million children studying in Lahore’s public and private schools.
