Jang group publisher Mir Javed-ur-Rahman passes away
The hallmark of late Mir Javedur Rehman, about 74, was his humility, piety and soft-spoken attitude. I got his calls in August 2015 and July 2019, whereby he had condoled the demises of my late father and sister respectively.

In very few words, he asked me if he was of any assistance during the hours of grief.

Trust me, he never knew me much as I have never worked directly under his supervision during my 29-year long career with this august Pakistani media house.

Yes, he claimed he was an avid reader of my research stories. I mean, this is what he told me when we had met in the lobby of Lahore’s Pearl Continental Hotel in May 2014 perhaps, just few days after Hamid Mir was nearly sent to his grave by shooters in Karachi on April 19 of the same year.

This was the time when Jang Group and Geo were struggling and literally fighting for survival.

Javed sahib sought my views and never personally uttered much, though shadows of pessimism and despair were visible on his face.

Seated on the next table was his wife. We talked for about 7 or 8 minutes, so all I could judge about Mir Javed was that he had no wile or guile. Simplicity personified!

May he rest in peace and now that he has departed for his eternal abode, all my prayers for him.

May the Creator grant exemplary courage to his family members, particularly his 95-year old mother, to bear this tremendous loss with fortitude. His wife, siblings and pampered nephews including the likes of Mir Ibrahim, Mir Ishaq and Mir Ismael would of course miss him for a very long time to come.

Mir Javed had landed on the planet about a decade before his younger brother Mir Shakil ur Rehman did. The two brothers, as I know, were already upset for the last two or three years due to the ongoing cancer treatment and unexplainable pain of their sister in London.

Mir Shakil’s vindictive arrest at the hands of NAB on March 12 last was perhaps another factor that made Mir Javed lose all hope in life.

The deceased may have lived a bit longer had the bitter episode pertaining to Shakil sahib’s arrest not inflicted an astounding emotional thud on his brain.
