Mir Javedur Rehman knew no wile and guile
The hallmark of late Mir Javedur Rehman, about 74, was his humility, piety and soft-spoken attitude. I got his calls in August 2015 and July 2019, whereby he had condoled the demises of my late father and sister respectively. In very few words, he asked me if he was of any assistance during the hours of grief. Trust me, he never knew me much as I have never worked directly under his supervision during my 29-year long career with this august Pakistani media house. Yes, he claimed he was an avid reader of my research stories. I mean, this is what he told me when we had met in the lobby of Lahore’s Pearl Continental Hotel in May 2014 perhaps, just few days after Hamid Mir was nearly sent to his grave by shooters in Karachi on April 19 of the same year.
