IKOJK is set to shine on the global winter sports stage as Mir Muddasir, President of the SnowShoe Federation of India (SSFI) and Vice President of the World SnowShoe Federation (WSSF), will represent India at the World SnowShoe Championship 2025. The prestigious event will take place from December 19 to 21, 2025, at the Ariens Nordic Center in Brillion, Wisconsin, USA.
A native of Kashmir, Mir Muddasir has played a pioneering role in promoting and institutionalizing snowshoe sports in India. His consistent efforts have helped the sport gain international recognition. In 2023, he was elected Vice President of the World SnowShoe Federation, and since 2024, he has been serving as the Acting President of WSSF, overseeing global governance and development of the sport.
Sole Indian Representative at Global Championship
At the World SnowShoe Championship 2025, Mir Muddasir will be the sole representative of India, as other Indian participants could not secure U.S. visas. During the championship, he will preside over the WSSF Congress, where elections for the new global body will be held. Mir Muddasir is widely expected to be elected President of the World SnowShoe Federation, a move that would mark a historic milestone for Indian winter sports.
In addition to attending championship races, he will take part in the inauguration and closing ceremonies and engage with athletes, officials, and delegates from multiple countries participating in the event.
Distinguished Career in International Winter Sports
Mir Muddasir has previously attended World SnowShoe Championships in Italy and Spain. Earlier in his career, he also represented India as a skiing official at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada, making him one of the most accomplished winter sports administrators from Jammu & Kashmir and the country.
Vision for Snowshoe Sports in India
Expressing pride over his participation, Mir Muddasir said: “Representing India at the World SnowShoe Championship is a great honour and a proud moment for Jammu & Kashmir and the entire nation. Snowshoe sport has enormous potential in India, particularly in Himalayan regions. My presence at this global platform will help bring international exposure, technical expertise, and new opportunities to develop the sport across the country.”
