Lahore, 28th January: Lahore court indicts Jang Editor-in-Chief, Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and two others in land allotment case.

Baaghi TV: An accountability court in Lahore indicted Mir Shakil ur Rahman and two others in a reference by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday.

According to reports, NAB’s reference was made on a case concerning a 34-year-old illegal land allotment in Rahman’s favour, which was allegedly manipulated by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

As per reports from Dawn News, Judge Asad Ali of the Accountability Court presided over the hearing in which two other accused former director general of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Humayon Faiz Rasool and its former director of land development department Mian Bashir Ahmad, in the reference were also present in the court.

All three accused pleaded not guilty to the charges after which the court ordered NAB to call for its witnesses to record their statements at the next hearing on February 16.

It is to be recalled that mir Shakil-ur-Rahman was arrested in March 2020 by NAB after he failed to satisfy their answers in a hearing regarding the case.

As per earlier reports, the NAB land allotment reference had alleged that Rahman had illegally obtained exemption of 54 plots in 1986, each measuring one-Kanal, situated in Block-H, Johar Town.

It alleged that the allotment of the land was made in collaboration with the then chief minister of Punjab, Nawaz Sharif, against the exemption policy and the laws for financial gains.

It was further reported that a loss of Rs 143.53 million to the national exchequer was caused by the suspects through the land allotment in violation of exemption policy.

In November 2020, after months in spending in jail, Rahman was granted bail by the Supreme Court.

While the fourth accused in the case, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif was declared an absconder by the accountability court and permanent arrest warrants were issued for him in the same month.
