IIOJK: Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been placed under house detention again, the Hurriyat conference claimed on Friday. Chairman of the Hurriyat Conference (M), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was released on Thursday after nearly 20 months of being in house detention.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, was first placed in detention in the aftermath of the revocation of Article 370 in August of 2019.
Following media reports on Thursday, sources had suggested that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq “is free to move anywhere” since his detention has been lifted.
“Late last night, police officials visited the Mirwaiz’s residence to convey to him that he continues to be under house arrest, and will not be allowed to go to Jama Masjid for Friday prayers and Majlis Waaz o Tableegh today,” said a statement issued by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) on Friday.
