Mirwaiz welcomes India SC’s interim relief on Waqf Act

All Parties Hurriyat Conference senor leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has welcomed the Indian Supreme Court’s interim relief on the Waqf Amendment Act, calling it a ray of hope for Muslims seeking justice against what he termed a discriminatory law.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a post on X said the apex court’s tough questions to the government regarding the Waqf Amendment Act and its interim direction — restraining the addition of new members to Waqf boards and stopping the denotification of ‘Waqf-by-user’ properties — was a positive step.

He expressed hope that the apex court would ultimately revoke the “biased and excessive” Act.
