Modi leaves for Tokyo to attend Shinzo Abe’s funeral

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on his way to Tokyo where he will attend former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe’s funeral tomorrow.

In Tokyo, PM Modi is scheduled to attend a bilateral meeting with PM Fumio Kishida before attending Shinzo Abe’s state funeral ceremony. This will be followed by a greeting occasion at the Akasaka Palace, news agency PTI reported. The PM will also meet Abe’s wife Akie Abe.

“I am travelling to Tokyo tonight to participate in the State Funeral of former PM Shinzo Abe, a dear friend and a great champion of India-Japan friendship,” PM Modi tweeted earlier in the day.

Modi, who met the Japanese leader several times – as a prime minister and also as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, and inked multiple pacts between the two countries, was also very vocal about his camaraderie and rapport with the leader.
