Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone call with the President of Iran to express his concern over the rising tensions in West Asia, urging restraint and dialogue as the region grapples with the fallout from US and Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
In a statement posted on X, Modi wrote, “We discussed in detail about the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability.”
The conversation comes amid mounting international pressure to restore calm after military strikes heightened fears of a wider regional conflict. India, which maintains strong ties with both the United States and Iran, has consistently advocated for peaceful resolution through diplomacy.
