Motorway Rape Case: Famous celebs spotted at the protest

Karachi, 13th September: Protests across Pakistan were held on Saturday to condemn the brutal rape of a woman in front of her children while travelling on a motorway.

According to reports of Baaghi TV, protests across Lahore and Karachi were held yesterday condemning the gang-rape on Lahore motorway.

People demanded justice for the woman and her kids. The protestors have asked the authorities to arrest the rapists at the earliest. Many have demanded to hang the culprits publicly.

According to reports, many notable personalities were spotted at the protest including the women activists, Shabina Ayaz of Aurat Foundation and Farah Khan Advocate of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

Other prominent celebrities present were the actresses Saba Hameed with her daughter Meesha Shafi, Sanam Saeed, Zara Noor Abbas, and the famous activist and the owner of an event management company, Frieha Altaf.

The Dawn reported that the women activists said it was a shameful incident which reflected on the government’s failure to protect lives and honour of people even on the thoroughfares.

Senior actress Saba Hameed and daughter Meesha Shafi held a placard that said, “Real men don’t rape.”

Frieha Altaf carried the slogan of, “We are living in the Islamic Republic, not the Rape Republic.” She also shared the post on her Twitter account:

Actors Sanam Saeed made her presence felt by supporting the cause and tweeted her picture replying to a netizen, who wrote, “None of the women celebs made it to the protest, Did they?”

Saeed gave a befitting reply, “Don’t worry about the female celebrities, think collectively and let each individual fight in their own way.”

The ‘Zebaish’ actress Zara Noor also shared the scenes from the protest on her Twitter account supporting the cause:

The protesters also blasted the Lahore police chief for stating that the victim woman should have avoided travelling on the motorway during the night.

People demanded when the crimes were committed on the roads then the justice should also be dispensed on the thoroughfares to make the criminals a lesson for others.
