Islamabad, 14th January: Naeem Bukhari gets barred from working as the chairman of Pakistan Television (PTV).

Baaghi TV: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has banned PTI leader Naeem Bukhari from working as chairman of PTV.

According to reports, a single bench was led by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah, who announced the decision while hearing a set of petitions challenging Bukhari’s appointment. It was cited that his appointment as the chairman is a violation of a 2018 Supreme Court order.

In today’s hearing, Justice Minallah asked if the government had relaxed the age-limit before his appointment. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting replied that two summaries were forwarded to the federal cabinet on November 13 and 26.

The judge remarked that the federal cabinet did not make a clear decision on relaxing the age limit, although Bukhari is a respected figure but no one is above the law.

The representative from the ministry informed the court that the summaries put forward, contented Bukhari to be a worthy candidate for the post and that the federal cabinet had approved the summaries.

The IHC chief justice said, “Did you inform them of the apex court verdict? By omitting it, you are embarrassing the federal cabinet as well.”

Justice Minallah directed the ministry to place a revised summary for review of the previous decision before the federal cabinet.

The hearing has been adjourned for two weeks.

It is to be noted that Naeem Bukhari, who led the legal team of PTI chief Imran Khan in the Panama Papers leak case, was appointed as the Chairman PTV in November last year.
