Nawaz Sharif once again moves IHC to seek bail on medical grounds

Former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has once again moved Islamabad High Court (IHC) for seeking bail on medical grounds in Al-Azizia reference.

Petition seeking bail on medical grounds has been filed in IHC on behalf of Nawaz Sharif. Chairman NAB, Superintendent Jail Kot Lakhpat and Accountability Court have been made respondents through this plea.

It has been said in the bail plea that doctors have given opinion as per medical reports that Nawaz Sharif is facing life risk due to ailment. The stress can prove fatal for him, therefore, he should be released on bail.

It is pertinent to mention here Supreme Court had rejected review petition filed by Nawaz Sharif seeking suspension of sentence term and extension in bail. Al-Azizi, Flagship and Avenfield reference were filed against Nawaz Sharif and his children on September 8, 2017. He was indicted in Al-Azizia case on October 19, 2017 and in Flagship reference on October 20. In Avenfield reference Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to 10 years in jail, Maryam Nawaz 7 years and Capt (Retd) Safdar was awarded one year jail term.

IHC had suspended conviction of all these three persons in Aven field reference in September 2018. Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to 7 years in jail in Al-Azizia reference on December 24 , 2018 and was acquitted in flagship reference.
