The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has sanctioned a rise of Rs1.81 per unit in electricity rates, attributed to the monthly fuel cost adjustment for the month of June.
Initially, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had proposed an increase of Rs1.88 per unit in electricity charges. Nepra conducted a public hearing regarding the fuel cost adjustment (FCA) on July 26. The revised rates will exclusively apply to the bills for the month of August, as outlined in the Nepra notification. Previously, in May’s fuel cost adjustment, consumers were billed an extra Rs1.90 per unit.
For the month of June, consumers will experience a reduction of Rs9 per unit in charges under the fuel cost adjustment, in contrast to the previous month.
It is pertinent to note that this increase will not impact Lifeline and K-Electric customers. Similarly, Nepra has also issued a notification indicating a rise of Rs2.31 per unit in electricity prices for K-Electric consumers due to the monthly fuel cost adjustment in June.
K-Electric had initially sought an increase of Rs2.34 per unit. Nepra held a public hearing on the fuel cost adjustment on July 26.
The price revision will specifically be applicable to bills for the month of August for all K-Electric customers except for lifeline consumers and electric vehicle charging stations.
