Dec 20, 2021: According to a PCB media release, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has confirmed it will tour Pakistan twice in 2022-23.
The announcement by the Pakistan Cricket Board reads, “New Zealand Cricket has confirmed it will tour Pakistan for two Tests and three ODIs in December/January 2022-23 as part of the Future Tours Programme and will return in April 2023 for 10 white-ball matches to make up for the September 2021 abandoned tour.”
The announcement came after talks between NZC and PCB chairmen. Two Tests and three ODIs will be part of the ICC World Test Championship and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, respectively. The second tour of New Zealand will feature the Black Caps in two additional ODIs and will now consist of five ODIs and five T20s to be counted in the ICC rankings.
The PCB said the two boards would work together to finalize dates for future visits.
Following the announcement, the PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja said, “This reflects the strong, cordial and historic relations the two boards have and reconfirms Pakistan’s status as an important member of the cricket fraternity,”
David White, chief executive of New Zealand Cricket, said relations between the two boards had been strengthened thanks to some “very fruitful and constructive talks” between the two board chairmen in Dubai. “It’s good to be back,” he said.
The time of the tour will be a busy time for Pakistan at home from March 2022 to April 2023 as the country will host eight Tests, 11 ODIs and 13 T20I matches against Australia, England and New Zealand.
