Next three months can be severe, claim medical experts

Medical experts in Balochistan have said according to research the next three months, especially September, could be highly sensitive to the spread and effects of the coronavirus.

According to an official statement, the medical experts said this while briefing a high-level meeting chaired by the Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mir Kamal on the coronavirus situation,

According to the provincial media, the experts said that the attitude and effects of the virus spreading locally in Balochistan are different from other provinces. The province has a high proportion of people infected with the virus, but the condition of patients is better and the death rate is lower.

Out of a total of 6,788 cases in the province, the number of local transfer cases is 6,640 which is 97%.

According to experts, research so far has shown that people have to live with the coronavirus, but with precautionary measures, its spread and effects can be reduced.

Health Secretary Dosteen Jamaldini informed the meeting that the testing capacity in the laboratory of Fatima Jinnah Hospital is up to 1500 per day, 50 in Sheikh Zayed Hospital and 24 in Bolan Medical Complex (BMC) Hospital.

So far, 72,598 people have been screened and 31,117 people have been tested in the province.

Dr. Farooq Ahmed, Regional Blood Center (RBC) in-charge, while briefing the meeting, said that in his institute, the treatment through acquisition of plasma of patients has been started with positive results.

RBC, Quetta is the first and only center among the nine blood centers in the country to receive plasma for those recovering from the coronavirus.

Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that we have to deal with coronavirus but it is now up to the people to protect themselves with precautionary measures.

He said that if the people were careful, the effects of the virus would be moderate but in case of carelessness, the effects could be severe which could lead to hospitalization, oxygen and ventilator.
