Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has accused US President Joe Biden’s administration of negotiating with former US President Donald Trump to restore the nuclear deal.

According to reports, in a speech on local television, the Iranian Supreme Leader stated that the current Biden government was no different from the Trump government because it is also demanding the same thing regarding the nuclear issue.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that Biden’s administration wants “the same thing today, which is not different from the past, what Trump said, he is saying today in other words.”

He was quoted on the official website as saying that the Americans were not really ashamed of the nuclear issue and that although they withdrew from the nuclear deal, they demanded that Iran withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

Iran’s supreme leader made these remarks during a meeting with newly elected President Ibrahim Raisi’s cabinet, during which he acknowledged that public confidence in the government had been “damaged.”

There have been six rounds of nuclear talks between Iran and the world powers in which the United States also participated indirectly. The last round of talks in Vienna between April and June concluded on June 20, and no date after has been set.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that behind the US foreign policy is a wolf that sometimes turns into a cunning fox.

His remarks came as a senior security official in Tehran said Iran reserves the right to “respond” to Washington following Biden’s threats.

Biden, who met with the Israeli prime minister at the White House, said the United States was committed to ensuring that “Iran will never develop a nuclear weapon.”

“We are making diplomacy a top priority and seeing where it takes us, but if diplomacy fails, we are ready to move on to other options,” he said.

Decades of tensions between Iran and the United States have intensified since Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the nuclear deal and impose sanctions on Iran.

Joe Biden, who won the US presidential election on November 3, 2020 and assumed office on Januray 20, 2021, has signaled a return to the nuclear deal.

The newly elected US president has indicated that he wants to talk openly with Iran after the withdrawal from the agreement, which also includes missiles and influence in the region, especially in the Middle East.
