Lahore High Court hears case pertaining to non-payment of dues to the media.
According to reports, Chief Justice Qasim Khan has summoned Secretary Information Punjab Anwar Jahangir for the next hearing. The public prosecutor informed the court that it was true that various institutions of the Punjab government owed money to the channel owners.
Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan while giving remarks said that it would be better if the Secretary Information would appear at the next hearing by making payments to the channel owners. Secretary Information Punjab be prepared to suffer the consequences on non-payment of money.
According to reports, Executive Director Pakistan Broadcasters Association Muhammad Ali Butt appeared in court. Jam Asif Advocate on behalf of Pakistan Broadcasters Association gave arguments. Lawyer PBA said that the Punjab government has to pay Rs. 432 million. The court sought an affidavit from the Broadcasters Association regarding the salaries of all journalists and workers.
Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan while giving remarks said that Ramadan is coming and then Eid is coming. Non-payment of salaries to journalists is unbearable. Don’t starve the children of journalists. Lawyer PBA said that all the channels are ready to make payments. If the Punjab government pays the money, it will pay the journalists immediately.
