Obama to speak at COP 26 Climate Summit on Monday
Former President Barack Obama will express his views on climate change on Monday at the COP26 climate change Summit in Glasgow.
Hannah Hankins, Obama’s spokeswoman said that Obama’s speech at the summit is sure to put the threat of climate change into a broader context. According to her, he will specifically target the significant progress made in five years since the Paris agreement came into play and will highlight the importance of the leadership of the youth around the world.
Obama’s appearance at the COP26 began with recommendation from climate change activists. But the actual decision to attend it took shape in his conversation with John Kerry, his former secretary of state and upon President Joe Biden’s special presidential envoy for climate.
Obama had already voiced his opinions alot to address environmental issues while he was in office, but in contrast, former President Donald Trump was a longtime climate crisis denier who had attempted to remove many of the policies installed by the Obama administration to limit the greenhouse effect.
Since coming to power, Biden has been re-establishing many of these policies previously made by the Trump administration.
