Omicron sub-variant detected, NCOC to be restored

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif takes notice of the detection of the Omicron sub-variant in Pakistan, and orders the restoration of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) in Pakistan. 

According to Baaghi TV reports, PM Shehbaz Sharif has ordered an immediate restoration notice for the NCOC as Omicron sub-variant cases confirmed in Pakistan. The PM has also ordered a current situation report from the Ministry of National Health.

The new sub-variant named Omicron BA.2.12.1, detected by the National Institute of Health (NIH) is reportedly rising in numbers across various countries. China, the country where the coronavirus originally surfaced, is also experiencing another serious ‘zero-Covid’ lockdown in cities including Shanghai.

In a tweet, the NIH confirmed the detection stating, “This new sub-variant is causing [an] increasing number of cases in different countries”. 

It is pertinent to note that the NCOC which was originally established in 2020 at the start of the Covid-19 spread in Pakistan, as the leading nerve center for Pakistan’s unified response against the coronavirus, was absolved on the 31st of March, 2022.
