HYDERABAD, Feb 14 (APP):The local authorities in several districts of Sindh have demolished around
6,000 structures which were built on the land of Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority (SIDA).
The SIDA’s spokesman Hizbullah Mangrio informed on Sunday that the operation to remove encroachments from SIDA’s land was being carried out in compliance with the Sindh High Court’s order.
According to him, the authority had identified and, subsequently, submitted a list of more than 31,000 structures which were built illegally on SIDA’s land in many districts of Sindh.
He apprised that 3,072 residential and commercial structures out of 15,542 in the jurisdiction of Left Bank Canals Area Water Board, 2,544 out of 12,142 in Nara canal and 184 out of 4,166 in Ghotki Feeder
Canal had been razed so far.
Mangrio said the ongoing operation would continue on a daily basis till February 28 on the court orders.
Quoting the SIDA’s Managing Director Wali Muhammad Naich he said after removal of encroachments SIDA would make embankments of the canals motorable.
He added that move would also help ensure better look after and maintenance of the irrigation infrastructure.
