ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has directed police to separate cases for the May 9 attacks on military installations as well as government and civil property.
According to reports, in the incident of arson and damage to military and government property, the Federal government has directed the police to take action and move forward as separate cases of attacks.

According to media reports, the cases will be tried in anti-terrorism courts on the basis of separate FIRs for the attack on military and defense properties and cases of arson. After the initial examination, the cases will be forwarded to military courts with the permission of the magistrate.
Instead of new military courts, trials under the Army Act will be considered in anti-terrorism courts because, for the establishment of new military courts, legislation will have to be enacted. As the law on the trial of civilians in military courts expired in 2019.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Party (PPP) has reservations about proceeding with the trial in military courts. In this regard, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Law to formulate a procedure.
The Prime Minister wants that there should be a speedy and transparent trial of those who attacked the military installments, but all the legal requirements should be fulfilled for this.
