Washington: A US intelligence report has warned of a protracted war between Pakistan and India.
According to the report, Pakistan and India could be embroiled in a protracted war that neither side wants. The review is included in the US government’s National Intelligence Council’s Global Trends Report.
According to sources, the report enables policymakers to understand and plan for the future based on predictions about the world’s potential powers over a period of five to twenty years. The report released this year warns of a possible prolonged war between the neighboring countries. It states, “India and Pakistan could be embroiled in a large-scale war that neither side wants, especially after a terrorist attack that the Indian government considers important.”
The report stated that due to the ability if militant organizations carrying out attacks, New Delhi has vowed to retaliate against such attacks, against Islamabad. Whereas, Pakistan has vowed to defend itself due to which over the next five years, the conflict can persist.
The report added that “miscalculations by both governments could lead to a breakdown in the conflict” which has otherwise been limited as per the capabilities of Pakistan and India, as “each side believes it will be able to deal with.”
According to reports, policymakers have been warned that a full-scale war could lead to damage “that will have economic and political repercussions for years.” Moreover, the report pointed out that the US policy in Afghanistan is at the forefront of the key uncertainties in the South Asian region.
The report said that next year’s US action in Afghanistan would have significant consequences for the entire region, especially Pakistan and India.
