Pakistan considers legal action against ECB, Black Caps

Sept 21, 2021: Pakistan’s govt is set to mull over legal action against NZ, England cricket boards over losses incurred in millions after series cancellation as quoted by Fawad Chaudhry.

The minister for Information and Broadcasting, Fawad Chaudhry said that the government was considering taking legal action against New Zealand and England cricket boards as both sides had lost millions to state broadcasters after withdrawing from scheduled cricket tours.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Monday that following New Zealand, they too have canceled the tours by both women’s and men’s due to security concerns.

The Information Minister said on Twitter that PTV had to bear the loss of millions after the cancellation and the final decision in this regard would be taken after consultation with the legal team. Fawad called the departure a “conspiracy” by the “international lobby” but added that such conspiracies would not succeed against Pakistan.

Chaudhry said those who want to force Pakistan to surrender before them never succeed and they should end their misconception as early as possible.

England’s men’s and women’s teams were scheduled to play two Twenty20 internationals in Rawalpindi on October 13th and 14th, and the women’s team was initially scheduled to stop for a three-match one-day international series from October 17th to 21st.

The ODI series against New Zealand was supposed to be played at the Rawalpindi Stadium, with matches scheduled for Sept 17, 19, and 21, while the Gaddafi Stadium was slated to host five T20s from Sept 25 to Oct 3.

Last week, on Friday, just before the first match was due to start, the New Zealand Cricket board said the tour was canceled following an increase in the level of government threat to Pakistan and the advice of its cricket security advisers on the ground.

Pakistan Cricket Board chief executive Wasim Khan has revealed, he received a call from Reg Dickinson the security consultant for New Zealand, on Friday, Dickinson said that “a report had landed on the New Zealand government’s desk through their government security agencies stating that there was a threat on the New Zealand team, and that threat was direct and imminent on that particular day”.

Wasim further stated that he was informed the intelligence emanated from Five Eyes and added that New Zealand refused to provide any details or inform Pakisan’s security agencies about the threat, despite being asked for the same.
