Pakistan Reacts to Stanikzai’s Comments: Claims Cannot Change Intl Law

Following the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai’s comments that Afghanistan will never recognize the Durand Line, the Pakistan Foreign Ministry issued a statement stating that “any self-serving and fanciful claims regarding the legality and sanctity of the Pak-Afghan border cannot change the facts of geography, history and international law.” The statement asked the current Afghan government to address Pakistan’s genuine security concerns. “The Afghan side will be well advised to address Pakistan’s genuine security concerns than try to divert public attention by such unfortunate public pronouncements. Pakistan remains committed to facilitating fully regulated movement of people and goods across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border based on norms of interstate relations. We will continue to take steps to this end,” the statement reads. This comes as the deputy minister of foreign affairs of the Islamic Emirate said that Afghanistan will never recognize the Durand Line as a border.
