Pakistan has formally requested the United Kingdom to extradite former accountability adviser Shahzad Akbar and YouTuber and former army officer Adil Raja, officials confirmed on Thursday.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi handed over the extradition documents to British High Commissioner Jane Marriott during a meeting in Islamabad. According to the Interior Ministry, both individuals are wanted in Pakistan in connection with multiple legal cases.

The government maintains that the two men have been involved in spreading “propaganda” against state institutions from abroad and should face due process in Pakistan. The Foreign Office and other relevant agencies are working jointly to advance the extradition process.

British authorities have not yet commented on the request, and it remains unclear how soon the UK may respond. Extradition between Pakistan and the UK is handled on a case-to-case basis, as the two countries do not have a formal extradition treaty.
