Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Dr. Asad Majeed Khan has stated that the Pakistani community in the US is a major asset to Pakistan.
Local community leaders Syed Javed Anwar and Tahir Javed, have been awarded the Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan, which was given to them by the Ambassador of Pakistan to the US at a Pakistan American Legacy Foundation event in Houston.
The event was attended by a large number of local elected community leaders from Pakistan, including Consul General Abrar Hussain Hashmi, who is posted in Houston. The welcome was presented by Saeed Sheikh, Secretary of the Pakistan American Legacy Foundation.
The two community leaders were introduced at the event by event chairman MJ Khan and director Dr. Asif Qadeer. A documentary featuring the living conditions and services of the two leaders was shown to the audience while Haroon Sheikh, President of Pakistan American Legacy Foundation, presented the foundation’s objectives and introduced the Ambassador.
Addressing the function, Dr. Asad Majeed said, “I personally feel happy when I see the speed at which our young people of Pakistani origin are progressing in the United States, from city politics to important positions in the city. The younger generation of Pakistan is making a lot of progress in the United States and Zahid Qureshi, Balbir Syed, Ali Zaidi, Salman Ahmed, Noman Hassan are great examples of this.”
“The role our community is playing in Pakistan-US relations is commendable and to be proud of because they are doing a great service not only to their family but also to their country while living here,” he said.
He further said that the awards given to Syed Javed Anwar and Tahir Javed by the Government of Pakistan are an acknowledgment of their services. Whether it’s the Kashmir issue or any other kind of problem, this community has proved to be Pakistan’s first hand in helping hand, along with the work of the diplomats, he stated.
He said that an ordinary Pakistani-American citizen can also persuade his senators and members of Congress to support him. Contact can be easily made through email, letters, or calls. Like this, common Pakistanis can also serve their country.
He said that the present government gives utmost importance to overseas Pakistanis which is why the embassy is working at all times to provide you with all possible facilities at your doorstep.
Ambassador of Pakistan Dr. Asad Majeed further said that other important steps were taken by the government, including Roshan Digital Accounts and Roshan Social Services, which are full examples of this.
At the end of the program, a concert was organized in which renowned Pakistani Qawal Riaz and Hamwa performed Sufi music. The program was organized by Zeenat Khan Mithani, and the visiting guests were welcomed by Tahir Bhatti.
