The Sindh government has recently made it mandatory for students 12 years of age and older to be vaccinated against corona virus to prevent the spread of omega-3 type. Meanwhile, Karachi is launching a door-to-door campaign to vaccinate women, who are lagging behind men in coronavirus vaccination rates as the country enters the fifth wave of CoVID-19 pandemic.
The provincial government’s campaign will use women health workers, who have long been instrumental in nationwide polio vaccination campaigns in Pakistan.
The rate of vaccination among male family members who go out to work is higher than the rate among women, according to Qasim Siraj Soomro, parliamentary secretary health for Sindh.
The first case of the omicron variant was reported in Karachi on December 13, and the federal government has acknowledged that the fifth wave of the pandemic has started in the country, with most cases being reported in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
About 70 million people in Pakistan, or 32% of the population, have received two doses of the vaccine. The government has allowed booster doses for citizens over the age of 30 since Monday. Children over the age of 12 are being vaccinated in their schools.
