In a significant blow to regional smuggling networks, a joint maritime operation involving the Pakistan Navy, Maritime Security Agency (PMSA), Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre (JMICC), and the Narcotics Control Wing of Sindh’s Excise and Taxation Department has resulted in the seizure of over 500 kilograms of hashish and crystal ice. The substantial haul was recovered from a stateless vessel during routine patrols in the Arabian Sea.
The operation, which involved surveillance and coordinated efforts, led to the interception and boarding of the suspicious vessel. A detailed search uncovered the large consignment of narcotics, estimated to be worth over one billion Pakistani Rupees (PKR) in the international market.
In a separate, intelligence-based operation, authorities also confiscated a considerable quantity of illicit liquor intended for illegal distribution. The combined value of the seized contraband from both operations underscores the scale of the successful interdiction efforts.
The recovered narcotics and illicit liquor have been handed over to the Excise Department of Sindh for further legal proceedings and investigation.
Officials lauded the success of these operations, attributing them to timely intelligence sharing, real-time coordination, and effective joint execution among all participating forces. These actions reaffirm Pakistan’s strong commitment to combating illicit maritime activities, safeguarding its sea borders, and enhancing regional maritime security.
The Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre (JMICC), established in 2013, plays a crucial role in such operations by serving as a central hub for maritime information sharing and coordination among various national and international stakeholders. The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, while primarily involved in tax collection, also plays a vital role in tracing and interdicting the use and trafficking of illegal and smuggled goods within Pakistan.
