A Pakistani soldier by the name of Lance Naik Adil Jan, part of the Frontier Corps Balochistan, has embraced martyrdom in Sudan while on a United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission.
According to reports, the 38-year-old soldier was on duty for the mission African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur, Sudan, where his responsibilities were, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), “protection of civilians and facilitating humanitarian assistance”.
The soldier was a resident of the Lakki Marwat area in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and was martyred while serving the mission to ensure global peace and stability.
Reports by Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, New York, state that the soldier fell on September 9th “shortly after being taken ill while on duty in El Fasher”.
According to the ISPR’s reports, so far at least 161 soldiers have fallen to martyrdom on such missions.
It is to be noted that in 2018, another soldier by the name of Naik Naeem Raza was also martyred at the hands of an armed group of rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The rebels also injured another soldier named Bilal.
The peacekeeping envoy was ambushed by the armed group, which resulted in the losses.
