Pandora Papers to reveal names of more Pakistanis with off-shore businesses

Oct 3, 2021: After the Panama papers, the ICJ is now set to reveal it’s next edition of revelations, the Pandora papers, an expose on prominent personalities with off-shore business dealings.

Pandora Papers will be released tonight at 9 pm as once more many Pakistanis are said to be involved in the Panama Papers-style international scandal.

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) will launch an investigation, allegedly in collaboration with about 600 journalists from 117 countries, including two Pakistani investigative journalists working on the confidential information of service providers who are in the business of helping set up and manage offshore companies and trusts in tax havens across the globe.

On Saturday, the global powerhouse of investigative journalism announced that it was releasing “the largest ever exhibition of financial privacy” with 11.9 million documents.

Meanwhile, the countdown has begun as many Pakistanis’ names are expected to appear in Pandora’s papers along with current and former leaders of many countries, government officials, judges, business tycoons are prominent in this scandal which is said to be bigger than the Panama Papers.

Pakistani investigative reporter Omar Cheema said that Pakistanis whose names are on the Pandora Papers number are more than those whose names were on the Panama Papers. He also said that the names are interesting, but we will have to wait another 24 hours.

The International Network of Journalists investigated the case for about two years to organize the investigation, making it the “largest ever” journalism joint venture. The global scandal came to light after massive leaks of financial files revealed how the elites used their ‘dirty’ money to smuggle money into tax havens.

The project, called Pandora Papers, is named in relation Pandora’s role in Greek mythology, whose box contained all ills of humanity.

In 2017, the Panama Paper leaked the names of key figures who linked them to offshore companies. The international scandal wreaked havoc in several countries, including Pakistan, where former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family was at the forefront of the scandal.
