PDM Rally: Showdown between Govt and Opposition
Lahore, 30th November: Authorities deploy containers and register FIRs against the PDM to hold a rally in Multan today.
According to reports, a showdown is expected between the government and Opposition as authorities plan to stop the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM ) from holding its rally.
The public gathering in Multan on Monday also marks PPP’s 53rd foundation day.
The PDM, on the other hand, seems adamant on holding rallies with PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz saying the party will hold jalsas wherever authorities put up containers.
As per reports from geo News, Punjab Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Inam Ghani has ordered against preventing Pakistan Democratic Movement leaders from leading rallies in Multan. The police chief has also ordered the removal of all obstacles in the way of political workers belonging to the Opposition.
It may be recalled that last week, Multan administration had denied permission to hold the rally at Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh Stadium citing coronavirus restrictions.
Aseefa Zardari, who will be leading the rally in place of Bilawal Zardari, arrived in Multan on Monday and went straight to the Gillani House. It was reported earlier by Baaghi TV that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is self-isolating after testing positive for coronavirus last week.
PML-N vice-president Maryam Nawaz also left for Jati Umrah for Multan and will be leading the party’s rally to the venue.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman is also expected to address the public gathering among other leaders.
It is noteworthy that a couple of days back, the PDM parties’ activists had broken the locks and occupied the stadium despite repeated warnings from authorities to not do the same.
Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s son Kasim Ali Gilani and other activists were arrested by Multan Police for defying the law and cases have been registered against hundreds of activists.
