The Delimitation Commission, chaired by retired Justice Ranjan Prakash Desai, will hold talks with leaders, civil society groups and others to gather necessary information on the formation of new assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
However, the People’s Democratic Party of Kashmir (PDP) led by Mehbooba Mufti has refused to attend the meeting with the commission.
According to details, the Delimitation Commission will arrive in Srinagar on Tuesday on a four-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. The Commission, chaired by retired Justice Ranjan Prakash Desai, will hold talks with leaders, civil society groups and others to gather necessary information for formation of new assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, however, the PDP has refused to meet with them.

Senior leaders of J&K met with Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi recently wherein they discussed a number of issues regarding the development of the Union Territory. Now the Delimitation Commission is also reaching the disputed state, comprising retired Justice Ranjan Prakash Desai, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra, and Deputy Election Commissioner Chandra Bhushan.
The Commission will also meet with the registered national and regional parties in the region, with the aim of gathering information for forming assembly constituencies, and it is here that Mehbooba Mufti’s party has categorically refused a meeting with them.

This action came after the Gupkar Alliance’s statement of displeasure over the meeting with PM Modi wherein it was stated that the central government has failed to restore confidence.
