Pakistan’s electronic media regulator, Pemra, has instructed news channels to cease providing airtime to individuals considered “proclaimed offenders” or absconders.
This directive, in line with a Sindh High Court decision, includes 11 names, such as Syed Akbar Hussain Shah, Sabir Shakir, Moid Peerzada, Wajahat Saeed Khan, Adil Farooq Raja, Haider Raza Mehdi, Shaheen Sehbai, Ali Nawaz Awan, Farooq Habib, Murad Saeed, and Hammad Azhar. Pemra’s directive, under section 27 of the Pemra Ordinance 2002, explicitly prohibits media coverage of these individuals and warns of severe penalties for violations.
Additionally, the matter has been referred to the Council of Complaints.
