PEMRA Stops TV Channels To Air 'Hugging Scenes'

After receiving many complaints, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Friday directed local television stations to “stop airing caress and hug scenes” in dramas.

According to PEMRA, in a notification, said a “significant stratum of society” believes that dramas are not depicting the “true picture” of the Pakistani society.

“Hugs/caress scenes/extramarital relations, vulgar/bold attire, bed scenes, and married couple closeness are being glamorised in complete contempt of Islamic teachings and traditions of Pakistani society,” the notification stated.

All satellite TV channels are instructed to refrain from showing such scenes. All Satellite TV license holders are directed to ensure compliance with PEMRA rules in its spirit.
