Thursday, July 2nd: A hearing was held in the Lahore High Court against holding the session of Punjab Assembly in a private hotel. The Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court accepted the petition for hearing. The Lahore High Court issued notice to the Punjab government and sought a written reply.
According to details, the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court heard the petition of Anjum Hameed in which the Chief Justice inquired as to where the meeting and session should be held as per the Rules of Business of the Assembly. Counsel for the petitioner said that the reason for the poor state of the economy is Coronavirus. At such a time, the government is investing millions of rupees. The present government had announced austerity measures.
Did the Chief Justice inquire whether it is written in the constitution or law that the meeting or the session will be in a specific place. Can the Governor give his powers to anyone under Article 109 of the Constitution?
Does the law allow the Governor to ask the Speaker to convene a meeting wherever he wishes?
