Aug 27, 2021: The Pakistan Girls Guides Association, PGGA conducted a National Youth Forum on the 7th of August at Ghora Gali campsite with a theme of “Role of Young Women in Governance” where there were 30 young women participants from across the country.
The PGGA is a national non-profit organization which has been providing healthy manpower to Pakistan since its inception in December 1947, and was founded by the Father of the Nation.
PGGA is one of Pakistan’s most prestigious organizations catering to the growth and grooming of young girls and women. PGGA works at national as well as provincial levels and is funded by the Government of Pakistan with regular auditing.
To encourage more young members in the organization and, with an emphasis on the WAGGGS agenda, the first session of the forum was “Introduction to PGGA Organizational Structure”.
Pakistan Girl Guides Association is a “national guiding organization” which aims to offer a dynamic training program to girls and young women to develop their fullest potential as responsible citizens, enabling them to perform their duties successfully in their home as well as for their community and the country.
Historically, the PGGA has been known to conduct various kinds of training for the girls, educating them in subjects such as maternal health and child mortality, which are generally not openly discussed in Pakistani society.
Multiple Young leaders took part in the role of young women in the PGGA and shared their views on how young women can come on board. They also discussed their challenges to volunteering while balancing their professional life. The facilitators helped them figure out ways they could participate in the organization.
The girls were introduced with Compass 2032 & its objectives were discussed in detail. Keeping in mind the vision of compass 2032 the girls were encouraged to take the lead & be confident to take decisions independently. An activity was done with the young leaders in two phases. In the first phase, the young leaders listed down the real life challenges being faced by girls today. In the second phase, they themselves figured out the possible solutions and learned how to take better decisions.
At the forefront of the PGGA agenda, there has always been the need to focus on community building through women empowerment.
To this end, the participants of the programme this year also got the chance to experience some activities of the 37th World Conference Activity pack. The Programme & voting procedure of the World conference was also explained to the youth members. The girls were really excited to know about the experience of the observers of the online 37th World conference held in July, 2021.
The PGGA has continued to serve the purpose of providing a safe space for girls as they interact with others and learn new skills, prepare for campaigns for social betterment while enjoying camping and develop their personalities in the process. It is a place where girls and women can challenge themselves, put their ideas into action, take part in an amazing range of activities, and gain the skills to confidently navigate their world. All in a safe and supportive environment that welcomes every girl.
Continuing the same traditions of its past, the Youth Forum this year also included a session was on Leadership Mindset, young leaders came to know about the six leadership mindsets in which they explored the concept of shared leadership. They learned that leadership is not only skills that we have but it is an ongoing process that we should all practice in everyday life.
Each mind set was practiced with different activities which they really enjoyed.
A session on Cybercrime was also part of the Youth Forum. The session was conducted by facilitators from Cybercrime branch. The girls were given many tips while being safe online.
At the end of the Youth forum, 10 new young members were enrolled with PGGA.
