At least fifty people died when a Philippines military plane crashed in the southern Philippines on Sunday which has been reported as the country’s worst military air disaster in decades.

According to foreign media, a statement issued by the Philippines military said that the death toll in the plane crash while landing on Jolo Island has risen to 50. The Philippines military says 47 of the 50 people killed in the crash were soldiers and three were civilians.

It may be recalled that yesterday a Philippine Air Force C-130 plane carrying more than 90 people has crashed in the Philippines, killing around 50 people, however 40 others were rescued.

All 96 passengers on board had been accounted for, with 49 military personnel injured as well as four civilians on the ground, military spokesman Major General Edgard Arevalo said.

An investigation had been launched into the cause of the accident and the injured had been shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.

A Philippines Air Force C-130 crash in 1993 killed 30 people. A 2008 crash of the civilian variant of the Lockheed plane flown by the Air Force killed 11 people, the Aviation Safety Network says. The country’s worst plane crash was that of an Air Philippines Boeing 737 in 2000, which killed 131 people.
